The 1. FFC Montabaur/Ww. started off a mixed season 2007/ 2008. After the team had been clearly promoted to the Regionalliga Südwest last season, it started the new season with big expectations.

Furthermore the two players Yasmin Pietsch and Alexandra Bigott from the DFB national squad went back from the 1. FFC Frankfurt to the Westerwald. Later on it became clear that only Alexandra „Alex“ Bigott was a real support for the 1. FFC Montabaur/Ww. team. The same applied to Katharina Schütz, who changed from the JV Neunkhausen to the 1. FFC. The goalgetter represented a kind of life assurance for the still very young team, so that the team finally managed to stay in the league.

Right after the start of the season also Maike Becker from the SC 07 Bad Neuenahr joined the team. Also in the new season Maike Becker is to play a decisive role in the midfield.

Euphorically the team started its first trip by bus to Tiefenstein to the DSB Breitenthal, which had also been promoted to the Regionalliga Südwest. When Katharina Schütz scored the 1: 0 for Montabaur the game seemed to be won. However this game was typical for the first round of the women from the district town. They finally lost the game against the DSB Breitenthal with 3: 1 goals, being too inexperienced.

Due to this inexperience and the lacking team closeness, not every point rested in the Westerwald. Furthermore the former national player Jutta Nardenbach was not available due to a long-lasting injury.

At halftime of the 2007/ 2008 season the team ended up in fourth last place in the table with perspective downwards.

In the winter break the squad was radically changed. Amongst others Yasmin Pietsch left the association and joined again the team of the 1. FFC Frankfurt.

Despite a very small squad, the very young team, however, picked itself up. Jana Schneider played her first minutes in the premier team. The first success was the title „Hallen-Rheinlandmeister 2007/2008“. The competitor of the Regionalliga Südwest and the second team of the SC 07 Bad Neuenahr from the German Football League were beaten in the decisive nine-meter penalty shooting. The new U19 national player, goalkeeper Dunja Fickeis, kept three penalties in the final.

The Idahl team could maintain this good form also in the field season. Right at the beginning the TuS Wörrstadt was beaten with 1 : 0 in Wörrstadt. Due to many a surprising result (amongst others the win against the JSV Jägersburg, which had been promoted to the 2. Bundesliga Süd) the sixth place in the table could finally still be reached with 34 points.

Work before pleasure: The highlight of the season became the final of the Rheinland Cup 2007/2008.  The opponent was the second team of the FC Bitburg.

The Westerwald women won with 7: 0 goals and for the first time they can play now in the first round of the women’s DFB Cup.

Already now the perspectives of the new 2008/2009 season can be discussed. Together with coach Hans Idahl and assistent coach Roland Linz, Jutta Nardenbach will intensively support the training of the first women´s team.

New aspects, such as for example athletics etc., will be on the programme. The coaches target the places 1 to 3.

The management supports these efforts. Now the team is responsible.

The Westerwald fans, the fans from the Koblenz suburbs and from the Hunsrück are looking forward to an exciting season 2008/2009.
