Contexte<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le German Gymnasium<\/strong>, situ\u00e9 pr\u00e8s de St Pancras \u00e0 Londres, a \u00e9t\u00e9 construit en 1864-1865<\/strong>. Il s’agissait alors du premier gymnase sp\u00e9cialement con\u00e7u \u00e0 cet effet en Angleterre. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 construit pour la German Gymnastics Society<\/strong>, fond\u00e9e en 1861 par Ernst Ravenstein, et servait de lieu de pratique pour les sports en salle tels que l’escrime, l’halt\u00e9rophilie et la boxe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il a notamment accueilli les premiers Jeux olympiques nationaux en 1866<\/strong> et a \u00e9t\u00e9 le berceau d’un mouvement qui allait inspirer les Jeux olympiques modernes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les Jeux olympiques nationaux de 1866 se sont d\u00e9roul\u00e9s dans plusieurs sites \u00e0 Londres. Les \u00e9preuves en salle telles que l’escrime, la mont\u00e9e \u00e0 la corde et la gymnastique ont eu lieu \u00e0 l’int\u00e9rieur du gymnase allemand<\/strong>, tandis que les \u00e9preuves en plein air se sont d\u00e9roul\u00e9es au Crystal Palace et sur la Tamise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Des \u00e9l\u00e9ments d’origine, tels que les fermes de toit en bois lamell\u00e9 et les crochets pour les cordes d’escalade<\/strong>, sont encore visibles aujourd’hui, pr\u00e9servant ainsi son h\u00e9ritage sportif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apr\u00e8s des d\u00e9cennies d’utilisations diverses (notamment comme bureaux et entrep\u00f4t), le b\u00e2timent a \u00e9t\u00e9 transform\u00e9 en restaurant par D&D London<\/strong> et a officiellement ouvert ses portes en tant que lieu de restauration en novembre 2015<\/strong>. Aujourd’hui, il fonctionne comme un grand caf\u00e9, un restaurant et un bar, alliant son h\u00e9ritage victorien \u00e0 une cuisine moderne d’inspiration allemande.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
