Macalloy provided Architectural Tension Bars to the shopping centre alongside a bespoke coupler exclusively designed by Macalloy for this project to help give the impression of a curve in the steel.
Macalloy tension rods were used to tension glue laminated timber beams on the atrium roof of Atrio (Austrian for Atrium) shopping centre in Villach. In order to achieve the curved appearance of the tendons a special coupler was used. The coupler was cut in half and profiled to match the angle required for the apparent curve. The couple was then welded back together.
The atrium roof measure 50 metres by 60 metres.
