The southern Vietnamese city of Can Tho lies on the river’s left bank as it flows into the Hau Giang river. In addition to being a hub for modern manufacturing, the city is home to numerous more traditional businesses, such as those involved in the cultivation of rice and coconut oils.
The Tay Do Bridge, also known as the “Western Bridge” in Vietnam, is a notable infrastructure project in the country. It spans the Hau River in Can Tho City, a major urban center in the Mekong Delta region. The bridge connects the southern part of Can Tho with the southwestern regions.
Completed in 2024, the Tay Do Bridge is part of a broader effort to improve infrastructure in the Mekong Delta, a crucial area for agriculture and trade. The bridge’s construction has helped facilitate the movement of goods and people, supporting the local economy and regional development. The Tay Do Bridge features a modern design that reflects the needs of contemporary infrastructure while integrating local and environmental considerations.
Tay Do is a steel arched cable-stayed bridge. This design choice provides a balance of structural efficiency and aesthetic appeal. Cable-stayed bridges are known for their ability to span long distances with minimal support and their distinctive, often elegant appearance.
The bridge is designed to ensure that it does not obstruct river traffic, which is crucial for the Mekong Delta’s transportation and trade activities.
With four lanes, it spans140 meters.
