Macalloy are delighted to have been involved in another exciting, sustainable construction project, this time across the pond in San Francisco, California.
The Chase Centre is brand new, state-of-the-art indoor arena in the Mission Bay area of San Francisco. As well as being the home of the famous Golden State Warriors basketball team, The Chase Centre hosts incredible live events and offers visitors the opportunity to experience a fantastic retail and culinary scene.
It has won several design plaudits and awards, and has been recognised as environmentally-friendly by LEED, the world’s most widely used green building system. This large-scale, multi-complex building also features high-end office space and is home to many big-name businesses as well as exciting new start-ups.
The arena, which officially opened in September 2019, has 18,000 seats coupled with a landscaped public recreation area and extensive parking facilities. MANICA Architects and Kendall/Heaton Associates designed the structure, which has been awarded LEED BD+ C v3 Gold Level Certified status.
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification is a globally-recognised symbol of sustainability achievement and leadership. LEED-certified buildings are proven to save money, improve efficiency, lower carbon emissions and create healthier places for people. They are a critical part of addressing the climate crisis, meeting ESG goals, enhancing resilience, and supporting more equitable communities.
The Chase Centre’s leading-edge design has also been awarded:
- 2020 Sports Business Journal Facility of the Year
- 2020 ENR (Engineering News Record) California: Best Projects Award, Sports / Entertainment
- Outstanding Achievement Award and Event of the Year – Stadium Business Awards
- Outstanding Project Award – Deep Foundations Institute
- World Changing Ideas Honourable Mention – Fast Company
- ACEC 2021 Engineering Excellence Grand Award
Macalloy supplied M520 – M20 stainless steel tension rod systems for the atrium, along with compression spring units.
The Chase Centre opened on 6th September 2019, with a grand opening concert featuring the Bay Area’s very own Metallica, who performed with the San Francisco Symphony orchestra for two consecutive nights.
