Background:
460 & 520 Tensile Structure Systems are prominent in Izmir Adnan Menderes airport, which is named after the former prime minister Adnan Mendes, and is located in the Geziemir district. In 2012, the airport secured a major investment opportunity to construct a new terminal which was completed in 2014.The terminal has an indoor area of 200,000 square feet and includes extra check in desks, elevators and the ability to handle large volumes of luggage, up to 5,000 every hour. The terminal was built with sustainability at the heart of the design and has been recognised for many prestigious awards including:
- Environmentalist Airport of the Year awarded at the Doha summit in 2009.
- Carbon Accreditation by the Airports Council International (ACI) in 2016.
- Awarded a LEED silver certificate for new construction in 2015.
