Background: : Named after one of the most prominent Sultans in Ottoman History and is known as the third Bosphorus bridge . The bridge was constructed to alleviate traffic congestion in Istanbul by providing an additional crossing over the Bosphorus Strait. The bridge’s construction began in 2013 and was completed in 2016. It was officially opened for public use on August 26, 2016. The Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge with a unique design and know as a masterpiece in engineering. It has a total length of approximately 2,164 meters (7,100 feet) and a main span of 1,408 meters (4,619 feet), which makes it one of the longest suspension bridges in the world. The bridge consists of eight lanes for motor vehicles, as well as two lanes for railway traffic.
