Background
The SNFCC is a multipurpose, sustainable cultural and recreational centre in Faliro bay, Athens. Constructed in 2016 the building has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Green Building certification LEED Platinum in 2016, the Best International Project award from the UK Building Awards in 2016, and the Award of Excellence from the RIBA International Prize in 2018.
Approximately one million books and periodicals, as well as a plethora of handwritten codices originating back to the 9th century, have been relocated to the library’s new facilities designed by Renzo Piano. The Greek National Library preserves the country’s rich literary history. The move was finished in 2018 and the open, modern design of the building’s public areas is a sight worth seeing.
