Cork Airport, Ireland

Products used: Tension Bars and Tie Rods

Macalloy Involvement: Macalloy tension bars are used to tension the arches in the glulam beams in the roof structure of Corks Airport terminal. The glulam beams have a double arch, with one concave and one convex. The bars are used to maintain the tension in the arch, meaning on one beam tie bars appear underneath, and then one on the top of the glulam beam.

In order to meet the curved profile of the struts hanging from the glulam beams, the Tie rods were bent under controlled conditions by the contractor.
