Background: The Millennium Bridge was the winner of a 1996 competition held by Southwark Council in conjunction with the Financial Times and the Royal Institute of British Architects. One of the most striking Thames bridges and the first new bridge to be built over the Thames in over 100 years.
For pedestrian use only, this 325m steel suspension bridge provides a link between the St.Paul’s Cathedral and the Tate Modern gallery.
Macalloy Involvement : At each end of the bridge, the main structure is tied back to the ground using Macalloy tie rods. In addition, Macalloy 1030 post-tensioning bar is used to connect the sections of the concrete support towers.
