Products used: Macalloy Tie Rods/Tension Bars
Background: This huge Exhibition Centre in Frankfurt is one of the largest in the world. Frankfurt as a trading city dates back over 800 years. This modern centre is situated in the heart of the city and has established public transport links making it a desirable location. It hosts hundreds of events each year, has numerous internal halls, and is an ideal convention space to showcase a diverse array of exhibitions. Macalloy tie rods are used to provide bracing for the large open span roof structure of Hall 11 at the Frankfurt Exhibition Centre.
Macalloy involvement: The roof is made of glulam beams and covers 22 square meters. Each glulam truss covers a span of 78 meters, providing a large open plan space with no internal columns. This project demonstrates the versatility of using large glulam beams. The roof is supported by Macalloy high strength steel tension bars, used for cross bracing. Macalloy provided support during the installation of the tension bars including the hire of the Macalloy tie bar tensioning device, the Macalloy Techno Tensioner.
