Background:
Macalloy has been involved in the construction of a number of bridges that have been recognised as the best in their respective categories in national competitions. However, the Winston-Salem Bridge project is one of a kind, and we consider it a privilege to have collaborated with such forward-thinking designers as HDR in the United States. https://www.hdrinc.com/ They developed the intricate and complex engineering design based on a model to not only achieve stunning aesthetics but the bridge won “ Prize Bridge Award“ in the special purpose category from the National Steel Bridge Alliance (NSBA) in 2022.
In Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in the United States of America, the recently built Green Street Pedestrian and Cycling Bridge carries people and allows bike access over the Winston-Salem Parkway.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the Creative Corridors Coalition in Winston-Salem are jointly responsible for the conception of the design idea.
The design includes inner as well as outer arches, and it has a span of 109 feet and a total structural length of 141 feet.

The outermost arches are just 16 feet tall, while the greatest inner arches, reach a height of 32 feet. All the arches, which are situated at different angles sustain distinct loads. The deck of the gently curved bridge is supported by 36 Macalloy hanger rods made of stainless steel that are radically aligned, and the way in which they are offset contributes to an increase in the structural stability of the bridge.
